Description: In this pivotal Pure Land Sutra text, the Buddha tells the past-life story of Amitabha Buddha when he was a king who renounced his kingdom to become a monk named Dharmākara ("Dharma Treasury"). He then practiced under the Buddha Lokeśvararāja ("World Sovereing King") where he made forty-eight great vows and created the Pure Land of Utmost Happiness, Sukhāvatī.
